TEXT: Psalm 121:1-8

1. I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains?

2. No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains.

3. He won’t let you stumble, your Guardian God won’t fall asleep.

4. Not on your life! Israel’s Guardian will never doze or sleep.

5. God’s your Guardian, right at your side to protect you -

6. Shielding you from sunstroke, sheltering you from moonstroke.

7. God guards you from every evil, he guards you very life.

8. He guards you when you leave and when you return, he guards you now, he guards you always.

(The Message Version Holy Bible)

TOPIC: OUR GOD IS DEPENDABLE

It is foolishness to depend on what is not dependable.

Prophet Isaiah underscores this truth as he laments some people’s foolhardy trust in the gods made by man from wood which is also used for cooking (Isaiah 43:12-19).

However, the Psalmist states that only the heavenly Father, the maker of heaven and earth, can be trusted and depended upon. After looking at every part of the world and the heavens, he found nobody and nothing dependable apart from God his creator and sustainer.

It is quite reassuring that nothing happens without His knowledge since he does not sleep.

It is wrong for any believer to doubt the ability of our God by looking for inferior means of protection such as charms or witchdoctors. He is abundantly available and always able to meet all of our needs (Philippians 4:19).

QUESTION: Do you sometimes feel like forsaking God for other powers in order to meet your needs?

PRAYER: Dear Lord, You are the only dependable God and I will always trust You, in Jesus name, Amen.
