TOPIC: THE
FIRST OF THE SEVEN “I AM” OF JESUS
John, the beloved
apostle, introduces us to seven significant claims of Jesus, one of which is “I
am the Bread of life.” The rest include the following:
- I am the light of the
world (8:12)
- I am the gate (10:7,9)
- I am the good shepherd
(10:11, 14)
- I am the resurrection
and the life (11:25)
- I am the way, the
truth, and the life (14:6)
- I am the vine (15:1, 5)
The synagogue leaders of Capernaum
vented their feelings when they heard Jesus claiming to be the Bread of Life. They
were incensed because it was obvious that Jesus claimed a heavenly origin,
while they knew who Jesus’ father was but chose to ignore His virgin conception
(Matthew 1:18-25).
In our world today, many
claim to know Jesus but decide to ignore the kernel of His outstanding claims:
His heavenly origin, virgin birth, light of the world, bread of life, the way,
the truth, and the life, the resurrection, etc.
QUESTION: Have
you ever taken time to reflect on the seven “I AM” of Jesus?
PRAYER: Dear heavenly Father, open the
spiritual eyes of those who have decided that Jesus is a mere human being like
any other person. Amen.
