Clothed in Christ: Daily Devotions for Identity and Grace

TUESDAY, 12 AUGUST 2025

TEXT: John 4:11-26

TOPIC: EVERYONE WHO DRINKS THIS WATER WILL BE THIRSTY AGAIN

Jesus dialogued with a social outcast, a woman, a Samaritan and a sinner. Jesus, the greatest physician was clerking His spiritually sick patient.

In medicine, clerking involves taking a full history, a physical examination and documentation in the patient’s notes, including the documentation of a working diagnosis and care plan.

In His dialogue with her, Jesus took her step by step to understand her true need. The woman did not expect Jesus to talk to her, let alone become spiritually defiled by drinking from a sinful Samaritan woman.

Jesus responded that she was missing a great opportunity, because he could give her living water. Such spiritual water would be far superior to any that came from the well. The only water that can quench human thirst and meet our needs permanently is the living water. As for hunger, it is the living bread.

QUESTION: Which water have you been fetching for so many years that you are willing to trade for the living water?

PRAYER: Dear Lord, give me the willingness to allow Jesus the great physician to take a full history and medical examination of my case, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
