TOPIC: THE
SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE
In today’s text, Matthew
presents God’s original plan that the marriage of one man and one woman is for
life.
But in the present
dispensation, we are witnessing pervasions such as homosexuality, polyandry
(one woman marrying more than one husband) and so on.
The Pharisees asked this
question: “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every
reason?” (vs. 3). Jesus replied that marriage is a sacred institution in which
a husband and wife will grow into one union for a life time here on the earth.
Christ stated why God
allowed divorce under the Mosaic Law (vs. 8) but pointed out that He hates
divorce (Malachi 2:16).
Divorcing one’s wife to
marry another amounts to adultery (vs. 9). But we should notice the exception
in verse 9b.
QUESTION: IS
the Church today still abiding by God’s original plan for marriage?
PRAYER: Dear
Lord, we thank You for creating marriage as a sacred institution. Help me to
follow Your guidelines in my marriage to make it heaven on earth, in Jesus’
name. Amen.
