TEXT: Matthew
19:16-30
TOPIC: A
DIFFICULT TEACHING?
Christ responds to this
man in keeping with the commandments (vs. 16) but he is confident that he has
been doing that for a very long time.
Riches tend to make
people feel very independent of God. As a result, Christ made the
recommendation in verse 21 which shocked the man (vs. 22).
He was very sad because
he could not make that sacrifice. Christ is saying that riches may very likely
prevent the owner from following Him and endanger his eternal salvation,
especially those who feel secured by their wealth.
This also astonished the
disciples. So, they asked, “Who then can be saved?” (vs. 25). Jesus replied
that, without God, salvation is impossible and outlined the benefits that
accrue to them and others who follow Him (vs. 28-30).
QUESTION: How
can believers willingly forfeit their wealth or riches for the sake of Christ
and the kingdom?
PRAYER: My
God and my Father, help me to acquire a healthy wealth and understand its uses
as I live for You daily, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Blessed
