IS THE GREATEST IN THE KINGDOM?
In today’s text, the
disciples ask Jesus, “who then is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?” (vs.
1).
He answered by using a
little child as example. The disciples’ main desire was to be above others,
just as it is the case in Christendom today. This is because we think that it
implies power, influence, status, recognition and respect.
Christ taught the
disciples that the most significant quality is found in the character of
children. We should know that ‘little ones’ in verse 6 does not refer to
children alone because, as new believers, we equally fall into this category.
Therefore, we must be
careful about what we teach them. This is the warning in verse ten.
QUESTION: According
to today’s text, what are the qualities of greatness and leadership?
PRAYER: O
Lord, give us the strength to become like children by renouncing any notions of
self in our lives.
