TEXT:
Acts 24:24-25:12
TOPIC:
PAUL’S TRIAL BEFORE GOVERNOR FESTUS
In the text we ready
today, Governor Festus heard that Apostle Paul had brought offering to the poor
saints and he wanted a bribe before he could hear his case.
A similar thing is
happening in our country today as leaders and judges want to be bribed before
they do to the people what is expected of them.
Paul exposed Festus’
sins and warned him of the impending judgment of him. The word of God is
sharper than a double-edged sword and can deal with a hardened and callous man
like Festus.
He adjourned the case
and left Apostle Paul in prison for two years. But he was also removed from office
(24:26).
It showed that God is
no respecter of persons – either rich, poor or a governor.
One thing that was
noticeable in Paul’s life was that he put suffering for Christ and the
salvation of souls before his own personal safety.
Brethren, there are two
lessons here. First, being a Christian/believer doesn’t mean that you won’t go
through trials and suffering in life.
Second, it doesn’t mean
that the people who share the same faith or differ with you won’t go against
you.
QUESTION:
Are you still behaving like Governor Festus when the true word of God points
your sins out?
PRAYER:
O Lord, help me to obey your word, help me preach Christ even when I am going
through unjust suffering, in Jesus name. Amen.
Remain
Blessed
