1 Corinthians 11:17-33
TOPIC:
THE PROPER WAY TO ADMINISTER THE HOLY COMMUNION
In today’s reading,
Apostle Paul spoke against some of the people’s practices during the Lord’s
Supper.
He noticed the lack of
genuine love for one another whenever they gathered for the Lord’s supper. That
has become a problem even in the contemporary Church.
Paul exhorted the
Corinthians that believers should come to the Lord’s table with genuine love
for one another. That is because it is there that believers who are redeemed by
Jesus express connection to Christ as a family of faith.
Paul had equally
noticed that the poor in their congregation were humiliated whenever the Holy
Communion was being administered.
For Africans, sharing a
meal is a sign of close relationships and a means for fellowship. Our Lord
Jesus Christ was very good at sharing food with the poor.
Therefore, the Lord’s
supper is designed for the Church to express and sustain members’ communion
with one another because it is a time to have a personal moment with Jesus,
reflect upon one’s sins and meditate on Christ’s redemptive work.
QUESTION:
Are you a repentant heart? If you are, then God wants you to be humble at His
Table.
PRAYER:
Lord, help me to examine myself, to live a worthy life and humble myself at the
Lord’s Table, in Jesus name. Amen.
Remain
Blessed
