TEXT:
Isaiah 52:13-53:12
TOPIC:
A SONG OF HOPE FOR JUDAH
This entire passage is
about someone who suffers, is despised and rejected.
The servant is
disfigured beyond recognition. He had suffered and sacrificed his life in
recompense for the sins of others.
St. Luke uses the words
of Isaiah in 53:12 and ascribes them to Jesus in order to make sense of the
brutal manner of Jesus’ death.
He was wounded for our
transgressions and crushed for our iniquities. Isaiah assured them that God had
not abandoned His people even though they were going through suffering and
persecution.
As we continue to live
in a world shaped by violence, oppression, injustice and forceful occupation
our lands by evil people, Christ, as presented here, is enough to look up to.
He is the only one who
can bear the sins of the many who are going through suffering and trouble in
His body. The lesson here is that, even in the midst of pain and grief caused
by sin, God always speaks.
Brethren, we may be
going through pain and suffering, but we have hope and assurance in Christ.
That is assures his readers that God has not abandoned His people.
QUESTION:
As a community of believers or as individuals, what trials, persecution and
suffering are you going through that make you feel as if God has abandoned you?
PRAYER: May Your death, resurrection and the suffering You endured for me never be in vain, in Jesus name. Amen.
Remain
Blessed
