Soulful Rhythms: A Daily Devotions Exploration

FRIDAY, 23 FEBRUARY 2024

TEXT: Habakkuk 2:9-12

9. “Who do you think – recklessly grabbing and looting, Living it up, acting like king of the mountain, acting above it all, above trials and troubles?

10. You’ve engineered the ruin of your own house. In ruining others you’ve ruined yourself. You’ve undermined your foundations, rotted out your own soul.

11. The bricks of your house will speak up and accuse you. The woodwork will step forward with evidence.

12. “Who do you think you are – building a town by murder, a city with crime?

(The Message Version Holy Bible)

TOPIC: BUILDING AN EMPIRE OF EVIL

Habakkuk warns against building a realm using unjust gain. The New King James Version explains this statement to mean coveting evil gain. But people are nowadays only interested in gain, regardless of whether it is evil or not. It is a lack of it that is evil.

The last two verses of the text make some scary pronouncements of judgment - the stones of the wall of the empire built with such evil gain will cry out in judgment. The beams of the woodwork will echo, also in judgment.

Just imagine a situation where different parts of a house built with ill - gotten wealth begin to quake judgment on the owner Imagine if this were to happen during the dedication of the house.

How sad. So much stolen wealth is celebrated in the Church today. Habakkuk concludes by pronouncing woe on such people. Do you sometimes secretly envy some people's wealth? Thank God for what you have.

QUESTION: What do you need that God hasn't given you?

PRAYER: Until You move me to the next level, help me to be happy where I am, in Jesus name. Amen.

Remain Blessed
