TEXT: 1
Corinthians 10:1-13
1. I
want you to know, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all
passed through the sea,
2. and
all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,
3. and
all ate the same supernatural food
4. and
all drank the same supernatural drink. For they drank from the supernatural
Rock which followed them, and the Rock was Christ.
5.
Nevertheless with most of them God was not pleased; for they were overthrown in
the wilderness.
6. Now
these things are warnings for us, not to desire evil as they did.
7. Do
not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, “The people sat down
to eat and drink and rose up to dance.”
8. We
must not indulge in immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand
fell in a single day.
9. We
must not put the Lord to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by
serpents;
10. nor
grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer.
11. Now
these things happened to them as a warning, but they were written down for our
instruction, upon whom the end of the ages has come.
12.
Therefore let any one who thinks that he stands take heeds lest he fall.
13. No
temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he
will not let you be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will
also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

TOPIC: RELYING
SOLELY ON GOD FOR VICTORY OVER TEMPTATIONS
Believers are running a race
towards making heaven. This race is not easy in the face of diverse trials and temptations.
All who run in a race have the desire to reach the goal and win the race, but
many couldn’t get to the finishing line because they were disqualified.
In our text, vs. 1-5 show
that all the runners were given the same opportunities, time distance to cover
and rules to follow. “All our fathers were under the cloud, all baptized unto
Moses, ate the same spiritual meat,” etc, yet God was not pleased with many of
them and they were overthrown in the wilderness.
Beloved, this is telling us
as believers today that the same God then, is now, and has caused this
historical fact to be written as examples to us (vs. 6-10). The people faced
trials and temptations, only those who relied solely on God made it to the
Promised Land.
Relying on God means living in
obedience to His word and allowing Jesus to be the Lord of our lives. Paul
admonished them to learn from past examples (vs. 11-12) and use God’s provision
of escape in verse 13. He who thinks he stands must be careful so he can’t
fall, for the devil is always around to pull us down.
QUESTION: How
are you confronting the trials and temptations of life as you run the race to
enter the Kingdom?
PRAYER:
Father, hold my hands with Your Word so that I may rely solely on you and not
on the arms of flesh as I run the Kingdom race on this side of heaven, in Jesus
name, Amen.
Remain
Blessed
