TEXT: Mark 16:1-8

1: When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body.

2: Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb

3: and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”

4: But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away.

5: As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.

6: “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.

7: But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’”

8: Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.

TOPIC: INDEED, HE IS RISEN

Throughout history, different individuals and groups have denied that Jesus rose from the dead. One of them was a 19th Century Professor of Law at the famous Harvard University, named Simon Greenleaf. He set out to expose once and for all what he called the "myth" of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. But he was so overwhelmed by the evidence that Jesus Christ indeed rose from the dead that his book became one of the greatest authorities on the subject.

Another writer was a lawyer called Lee Strobel who also set out to destroy the proof of the resurrection but ended up not only affirming its validity but also become a Christian because of the overwhelming evidence. He asserted: "I say unequivocally that the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ is so overwhelming that it compels acceptance by proof which leaves absolutely no room for doubt."

Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Salome saw the empty tomb and heard the testimony of the angel that Jesus Christ is risen. This is our testimony and no one can dispute that truth.

QUESTION: Do you still doubt that Jesus Christ is risen from the dead and is alive forever?

PRAYER: Thank You, Jesus Christ, for rising from the dead. I need no further proof of that. Hallelujah to the Lamb of God! Amen.
