Acts 22:30-23:11
TOPIC:
APOSTLE PAUL’S DEFENCE BEFORE THE SANHEDRIN
Apostle Paul belonged
to the two worlds of this day – he was both a devout Jew and a Roman citizen.
During the reign of
Emperor Claudius (AD 41-54), one could obtain Roman citizenship by conferment
when you rendered a valuable service to a Roman general or high ranking
official. But Paul said that was not the way he acquired his own citizenship.
His was because he was
a Jew and had studied under a world-renowned Rabbi. He came to Jerusalem to
tell the account of his conversion but the Jews were against him when he
mentioned that he was also sent to the Gentiles; they felt he had committed a
crime.
So, Apostle Paul
pleaded as a Roman citizen and was exempted from all the trials and punishment.
Brethren, do you value
the freedom you have in Christ as God’s children? We should value that freedom
into which we were born as children of God.
Apostle Paul was not
afraid to appear before the Sanhedrin. He knew that his citizenship would stop
all his troubles at once. He knew that the God whom he serves would support and
protect him for suffering in His name.
QUESTION:
Believers, do you know that your citizenship is not on this earth but in
heaven?
PRAYER:
Lord, help us as believers to value that freedom in Christ Jesus into which all
the children of God are born, in Jesus name. Amen.
Remain
Blessed
