TOPIC: THE KING WHO REIGNS FOREVER

One wonders why some people keep praising human beings whose riches and rule are temporal. In some parts of Nigeria for example, palace aides and some subjects treat traditional rulers like gods. Such leaders are praised as if they symbolize true perfection. But true praises should be given only to the Lord who is the everlasting ruler (Psalm 146:10).

He is without beginning or end. Therefore, we can respect our earthly leaders but true worship and glory should be strictly reserved for God alone. The Psalmist did not just give God ephemeral praises but also gave Him his soul because God is above all the princes who are mere human beings (vs. 1, 2).

It is sad that some people bow down to earthly rulers but are disrespectful before God in the church. They don’t know that God is their maker, their King and the only One worthy to be praised in every generation (vs. 3-6). To Him alone should all glory be attribute because He meets the needs of the “oppressed”, the “blind”, the “aliens” and the “fatherless” (vs. 6-9).

Remember, tomorrow is the beginning of another year. How are you planning to praise the Lord for bringing you to the end of this year and for taking you to the beginning of another year?

QUESTION: To whom do you give honor, respect and adoration?

PRAYER: My dear Lord, enable me to honor and worship You alone, my eternal King, in Jesus name, Amen.
