TEXT: MATTHEW 23:23–24
TOPIC: EVALUATING YOUR SPIRITUAL WALK WITH GOD
MATTHEW 23:23–24 NIV
23: “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees,
you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you
have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and
faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the
former.
24: You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but
swallow a camel.
EVALUATING YOUR SPIRITUAL WALK WITH GOD
In these verses, Jesus addresses the imbalance in
the religious leaders’ priorities.
They were meticulous in tithing even the smallest
herbs, yet overlooked the foundational virtues of justice, mercy, and
faithfulness.
Their focus on external obedience masked a disregard
for the heart of God’s law.
Jesus affirms that while details matter, they should
never replace the greater principles that define true godliness.
Today, we are challenged to evaluate our spiritual
walk.
Are we majoring in the minors, obsessing over
rituals while neglecting love, compassion, and integrity?
Genuine faith is not about selective obedience but a
wholehearted response to God’s character.
Let our lives reflect not only discipline but also
the deep values of His kingdom.
QUESTION: Are you focusing too much on minor details
while ignoring love, compassion, and integrity?
PRAYER: Lord, help me to live with balanced faith,
valuing both obedience and compassion. Teach me to reflect Your justice, mercy,
and faithfulness in every area of my life. Amen.
