TEXT: MATTHEW 23:29–32
TOPIC: LIVING IN OBEDIENCE TO THE TRUTH
MATTHEW 23:29–32 NIV
29: “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees,
you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves of the
righteous.
30: And you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our
ancestors, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the
prophets.’
31: So you testify against yourselves that you are
the descendants of those who murdered the prophets.
32: Go ahead, then, and complete what your ancestors
started!
LIVING IN OBEDIENCE TO THE TRUTH
In this passage, Jesus confronts the religious
leaders for their false sense of moral superiority.
They honoured the prophets of the past with outward
gestures, yet failed to recognize their participation in the same spirit of
rebellion.
Their words revealed pride and self-deception, as
they assumed they would have acted differently while plotting against Jesus,
the greatest Prophet of all.
This passage reminds us that honouring spiritual
legacy means more than mere admiration; it requires obedience to the truth
today.
It is easy to condemn the sins of others while
ignoring our own. True humility acknowledges our capacity for failure and our
daily need for grace.
We are called not just to respect godly history, but
to live faithfully in the present.
QUESTION: How faithfully are you living in today’s
society?
PRAYER: Lord, help me to walk humbly, acknowledging
my need for Your grace. May I not only honour righteousness with my words but
also follow it wholeheartedly through my actions. Amen.
