TEXT: JAMES 2:8-13
TOPIC: FAVOURITISM CONDEMNED II
JAMES 2:8-13 [NIV]
8: If you really keep the royal law found in
Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right.
9: But if you show favoritism, you sin and are
convicted by the law as lawbreakers.
10: For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles
at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.
11: For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also
said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you
have become a lawbreaker.
12: Speak and act as those who are going to be
judged by the law that gives freedom,
13: because judgment without mercy will be shown to
anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!
FAVOURITISM
CONDEMNED II
Favouritism is defined as treating some people
better than others based on external appearances. the Bible offers key reasons
against favouritism:
1. Inconsistent with God's Character: God does not
show favouritism (Acts 10:34).
2. Contrary to God's values: Humans often categories
others, but God's values differ from ours.
3. Sinful: favouritism is a sin against God (James
2:9).
4. Promotes Injustice: It leads to unequal treatment
and Denial of opportunities to marginalised groups.
Today is the “World day of War Orphans,” reminding
us to act on our Faith by supporting vulnerable individuals, as advised in
James 2:8-13. To combat favouritism, we should practice the Royal law: “Love
your neighbor as yourself.”
QUESTION: Do
you show favouritism in your life?
PRAYER: Lord,
Grant me the courage to confront favouritism wherever I see it.
