Luke 1:57-66
57.
Now the time came for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son.
58.
And their neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown great mercy to
her, and they rejoiced with her.
59.
And on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child. And they would have
called him Zechariah after his father,
60.
but is mother answered, No; he shall be called John.
61.
And they said to her, None of your relatives is called by this name.
62.
And they made signs to his father, inquiring what he wanted him to be called.
63.
And he asked for a writing tablet and wrote, His name is John. And they all
wondered.
64.
And immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke,
blessing God.
65.
And fear came on all their neighbors. And all these things were talked about
through all the hill country of Judea,
66.
and all who heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What then will
this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.

TOPIC:
ARRIVAL OF CHRIST’S FORERUNNER
God assigned John the
Baptist to be the forerunner of the Lord Jesus Christ. He started testifying
Christ while He was still in the womb (v. 41).
Our Lord is so great
that He also fulfilled what He said about the birth of John the Baptist. The
community considered it strange that the name Elizabeth mentioned was the exact
one Zechariah, who was temporarily dumb, wrote on the board.
It is clear that God
could have also revealed it to Elizabeth. Another notable miracle was the
opening of Zechariah’s mouth as earlier foretold by the angel in verse 20, 64.
Believers should obey
and serve the Lord with all their hearts and commit everything to His hands. It
is quite unfortunate to see some believers visiting so-called prayer houses and
even satanic shrines in order to get pregnant. We should learn from Zechariah
and his wife who remained godly even when they had no child.
QUESTION:
Are you faithfully and patiently waiting for God’s appointed time?
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, strengthen my faith to serve You faithfully in every situation, in
Jesus name, Amen.
Remain
Blessed
