He Speaks in the Silence: Listening for God Daily

FRIDAY, 11 JULY 2025

TEXT: Psalm 12:1-8

1: Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore; those who are loyal have vanished from the human race.

2: Everyone lies to their neighbor; they flatter with their lips but harbor deception in their hearts.

3: May the Lord silence all flattering lips and every boastful tongue—

4: those who say, “By our tongues we will prevail; our own lips will defend us—who is lord over us?”

5: “Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the Lord. “I will protect them from those who malign them.”

6: And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.

7: You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked,

8: who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race.

(New International Version Holy Bible)

TOPIC: A DISTRESS CALL

The Psalmist opens with a 119 distress call: "Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore; those who are loyal have vanished from the human race. Everyone lies to their neighbours....".

Psalm 12 expresses what it is like to live in a Christian organization where the foundations have been destroyed. It describes a situation very close to what obtains in African churches today where there is a scarcity of godly and faithful models and leaders whose words can be trusted.

Isaiah also made that emergency call when he said, "The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away...." (Isaiah 57:1-2). During the formative years of African churches, it's leaders who were graduates of the vernacular Bible training schools are now gone.

We are now under the sophisticated leadership of seasoned theologians. Does this call for celebration?

QUESTION: Don't you think it is time to dial God's emergency number?

PRAYER: Help, Lord, help, Lord, help, Lord!
