TEXT: Psalm
13:1-6
[1] How long, Lord? Will
you forget me forever How long will you hide your face from me?
[2] How long must I
wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long
will my enemy triumph over me?
[3] Look on me and
answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
[4] and my enemy will
say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
[5] But I trust in your
unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
[6] I will sing the
Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me.

TOPIC: LEADER,
ATTACKING LEADER
Psalm 13 begins with a series of four uninterrupted rhetorical questions addressed directly to God by a frustrated and depressed David who had been patiently praying and waiting for God to deliver him from the hands of King Saul who was pursuing him with 3000 of the best soldiers in Israel (1 Sam. 26:2-23).
This is
the background of Psalm 13 in which a rejected leader, Saul, was attacking an
anointed leader - David.
David's distress had reached its climax and he could no longer hold his frustration and disappointment about what appears to be God's silence. But despite his frustration, David did not lose hope as he turned to God in prayer and affirmed his trust in His unfailing love.
Thus, the Psalm of lamentation became one of
thanksgiving.
QUESTION: Do you have an experience of the Psalm of
lamentation and the Psalm of thanksgiving?
PRAYER: Dear Lord, give me the grace to forgive my Saul so
that I can be Your David, in Jesus' name. Amen!
