TEXT: Matthew
27:27-44
TOPIC: THE
RUGGED CROSS
The cross is a symbol of
pain, distress and burden-bearing (Matthew 10:38; 16:24).
In Paul’s writings, the
cross symbolizes the teaching on the doctrine of atonement (1 Corinthians 1:18;
Galatians 6:14; Philippians 3:18; Colossians 1:20).
The cross expresses the
bond of unity between believers and Christ and symbolizes sanctification
(Galatians 5:24). The cross was detested (Deuteronomy 21:23; Galatians 3:13)
because cursed is anyone who hangs on a tree.
But Jesus was willing to
be cursed for us to have life, He was abused and humiliated by the Roman
soldiers in the presence of the governor who did not want to get involved in
the killing of a just man (vs. 27-31; vs. 18).
Ye he watched Jesus
carrying the cross of his crucifixion to Golgotha, a place outside Jerusalem,
where criminals are executed. Jesus endured the pain to the fullest, refused to
accept the ointment to numb the pains (vs. 34).
The teachers of the Law,
the chief priest and elders hurled insults at Him (vs. 38-44).
QUESTION: What
insults, pains and disgrace have you endured for the sake of Christ who died on
the cross for you?
PRAYER: Lord,
thank You for dying on the cross for me. I pray for Your grace to endure
whatever pain and insults that will come my way and help me to hold onto the
cross till the end, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Remain
Blessed
