TEXT:
Habakkuk 1:12-17
12:
Lord, are you not from everlasting? My God, my Holy One, you will never die.
You, Lord, have appointed them to execute judgment; you, my Rock, have ordained
them to punish.
13:
Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Why
then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked
swallow up those more righteous than themselves?
14:
You have made people like the fish in the sea, like the sea creatures that have
no ruler.
15:
The wicked foe pulls all of them up with hooks, he catches them in his net, he
gathers them up in his dragnet; and so he rejoices and is glad.
16:
Therefore he sacrifices to his net and burns incense to his dragnet, for by his
net he lives in luxury and enjoys the choicest food.
17:
Is he to keep on emptying his net, destroying nations without mercy?
(New International Version Holy
Bible)
TOPIC:
GOD MAY USE EVIL FOR OUR OWN GOOD
Still
surprised that God was using a more wicked nation like Babylon to execute
judgement on His own people the prophet asked, "O Lord, are you not from
everlasting?
These
are the words of a disappointed soul that had been expecting something better
and comforting from a powerful and righteous God who allowed evil to continue
without intervening.
The
wicked and the treacherous in the land were tolerated under the watchful eye of
the Lord.
The
prophet complained that God was allowing that destruction to continue taking
place without mercy. We also make similar noise before the righteous God who
allows stealing, killings and kidnappings to go on despite of our prayers.
Just
as the prophet demanded answers to these puzzles, so are we doing in this
generation. But God is God and we need patience and quietness at such times of
despair to hear what He is saying or is about to say.
QUESTION:
In times of utter perplexity, to whom do we direct our petitions?
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, use every bad situation in my life for my greater good, in Jesus
name. Amen.
Remain
Blessed
