Harvest of Hope: Daily Devotions for Abundant Living

MONDAY, 1 APRIL 2024

TEXT: Matthew 28:11-15

11. While they were on their way, some of the [Roman] guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened.

12. And when the chief priests had gathered with the elders and had consulted together [to develop a plan of deception], they gave a sufficient sum of money [as a bribe] to the soldiers,

13. and said, “You say this, ‘His disciples came at night and stole Him while we were sleeping.’

14. And if the governor (Pilate) hears about it, we will calm him down and keep you out of trouble.”

15. So they took the money [they were paid for lying] and did as they were instructed; and this [fabricated] story was widely spread among the Jews, and is to the present day.

(Amplified Version Holy Bible)

TOPIC: BRIBERY PERVERTS JUSTICE

One of the ills that destroys society is bribery. When a society is bereft of morality, various forms of evil kill citizens.

Many of us know that our nation lacks justice, equity, righteousness and selflessness in governance. That is why various kinds of suffering plague the land.

The fact of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection was an embarrassment to those in power who couldn’t come to terms with it and so gave large sums of money to security agents to deny it.

Do we still wonder why, up till now, most people who are supposed to know and acknowledge the truth about Christ’s death and resurrection still live in self-denial?

We can clearly see that giving and taking bribes in whatever form is evil, wicked and covers the truth.

QUESTION: Do you believe that Jesus truly died, was buried and rose from the grave as He prophesied?

PRAYER: Dear Lord, make me a true witness for You in the midst of the corrupt society in which I live, in Jesus name. Amen.
