TOPIC: REVIVAL
TARRIES BECAUSE EVANGELISM IS COMMERCIALIZED
Jesus is in the City of
Jerusalem attending a seven-day mandatory annual feast commemorating God’s
deliverance of the Jews from Egypt.
This annual feast had
come to be seen by the religious leaders as an opportunity for fraudulent
financial exploitation of the worshippers.
Every male over twenty
years old was required to pay temple tax (Exodus 30:13). If a worshipper did
not have the right legal tender, he would be charged heavily by the temple
bureau of change.
The requirement that only
flawless animals could be sacrificed (Leviticus 3:6; 4:23, 28, 31) was also
being used to take advantage of worshippers.
The men who inspected the
animals had conspired to pass only animals bought from the sons of Annas, the ex-high
priest and the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who sentenced Jesus to crucifixion.
These animals cost five
or six times more than animals bought elsewhere. Rather than provide service to
worshippers, the leaders were exploiting them.
Making money, not
worshipping God had become the goal of many church leaders today in Africa. Transfers
and appointments into positions are largely determined by financial
considerations. No wonder revival tarries because evangelism is highly commercialized.
QUESTION: In
what ways is the church promoting the commercialization of evangelism?
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help my church denomination and the entire
Christendom not to slide into the sin of merchandising the gospel. Amen.

Blessed
