TEXT: Psalm
20:1-9
TOPIC: SOME
TRUST IN CHARIOTS, SOME IN HORSES
In ancient times, the
military strength of a nation was determined by the numerical strength of its
army, the chariots and horses.
A chariot is a two
wheeled vehicle drawn by horses used in ancient warfare. David had hundreds of
thousands of chariots and horses but he never trusted in them but in the name
of the Lord.
Psalm 20 was composed when
the king offered a sacrifice before a battle. He was surrounded by his people
who prayed for God to grant him victory that would be beneficial to the whole
nation.
In Africa, particularly
in Nigeria, we also pray for those in positions of authority. Unfortunately, in
many cases such prayers are mainly for the glorification of such leaders.
We call it “Thanksgiving
in honor of our son.” It is even more worrisome that the church has overtaken
the secular world in doing this. It is worth noting that in Psalm 20, God is
the only one that can be glorified as the only source of victory. The king is
merely His agent.
QUESTION: As
a church, on whom do we put our trust?
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to trust You instead of the schemes
and machinations of human beings. Amen.

Remain
Blessed
