Living Hope: Finding Strength in Daily Devotions

SUNDAY, 22 DECEMBER 2024

TEXT: LUKE 1:46-56

46: And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord

47: and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,

48: for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed,

49: for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name.

50: His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.

51: He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.

52: He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.

53: He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.

54: He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful

55: to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.”

56: Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.

TOPIC: THE SONG OF MARY

Mary's encounter with Elizabeth left a great mark in her heart about God's greatness. It made her appreciate God for considering her fit for the monumental task of carrying the saviour of the world in her womb.

Mary glorified the Lord in what is considered her song in today's passage. She praised the Lord for uplifting her to a new status; she spoke of the mercies of the Lord which extends from generation to generation; and mentions the fact that this same God provides for those who are hungry and humiliates the proud and haughty.

We should endeavour to understand God's work in our lives so that we can appreciate Him every day.

QUESTION: What do you make of God's dealings with you?

PRAYER: Even when things are happening to me and do not go according to my plans, help me to see You at work in my life so that I can praise You, O Lord, in Jesus name. Amen.

Remain Blessed
