Pathways to Peace: Daily Reflections on Faith

FRIDAY, 2 AUGUST 2024

TEXT: Revelation 2:8-11

8. “I am the Alpha and the Omega [the Beginning and the End],” says the Lord God, “Who is [existing forever] and Who was [continually existing in the past] and Who is to come, the Almighty [the Omnipotent, the Ruler of all].”

9. I, John, your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patient endurance which are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos, [exiled there] because of [my preaching of] the word of God [regarding eternal salvation] and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

10. I was in the Spirit [in special communication with the Holy Spirit and empowered to receive and record the revelation from Jesus Christ] on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like the sound of a trumpet,

11. saying, “Write on a scroll what you see [in this revelation], and send it to the seven churches to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.”

(Amplified Version Holy Bible)

TOPIC: REMAIN FAITHFUL IN THE MIDST OFPERSECUTION

The Church is passing through difficult times today. As a result, many Christians are asking about the whereabouts of God in the midst of these challenges because He seems to be silent.

The church at Smyrna struggled against two hostile forces: the Jewish population that strongly opposed Christianity as well as the non-Jewish population that was loyal to Rome and supported emperor-worship.

Persecution and suffering were inevitable in such an environment. Therefore, Jesus drew their attention to the fact that they were certainly going to suffer.

But He expected them to be faithful, even to the point of death and He would give them a crown of life.

QUESTION: What attitude have you been adopting in the midst of persecution or suffering?

PRAYER: Grant me the needed grace to continue in the race a faithful servant as I pass through suffering or persecution. Help me to finish well, in Jesus name. Amen.

Remain Blessed
