Graceful Beginnings: Daily Devotions for a Blessed Day

SATURDAY, 13 APRIL 2024

TEXT: Psalm 149:1-9

1: Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of his faithful people.

2: Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the people of Zion be glad in their King.

3: Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp.

4: For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory.

5: Let his faithful people rejoice in this honor and sing for joy on their beds.

6: May the praise of God be in their mouths and a double-edged sword in their hands,

7: to inflict vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples,

8: to bind their kings with fetters, their nobles with shackles of iron,

9: to carry out the sentence written against them— this is the glory of all his faithful people. Praise the Lord.

TOPIC: GOD DELIGHTS IN THE PRAISES FROM HIS PEOPLE

The Psalmist calls on God's people to offer Him praise and sing new songs unto Him for He delights in such.

Our songs draw favour from Him as He blesses us not only with salvation from the consequences of sin but fights our battles and inflicts vengeance on our enemies.

When believers focus of praising their God either in the assembly of the saints or on their beds, He is moved to hear their petitions, fights their battles and makes their glory shine above their enemies.

Therefore, it is worrisome to see some believers sing and praise God as if they were compelled to do so which affects the mood of worshippers.

The Psalmist calls on all of God's children to sing new songs wherever and whenever we have opportunity to do so.

QUESTION: How often do you sing praises which draw God's attention to your side to bless you?

PRAYER: Dear Father in heaven, let my praise and worship life be acceptable unto You, in Jesus name I pray. Amen.
