TEXT:
1 Peter 2:4-10
4.
Come to him, to that living stone, rejected by men but in God’s sight chosen
and precious.
5.
and like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house, to be a holy
priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus
Christ.
6.
For it stands in scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone
chosen and precious, and he who believes in him will not be put to shame.”
7.
To you therefore who believe, he is precious, but for those who do not believe,
“The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner,”
8.
and “A stone that will make men stumble, a rock that will make them fall”; for
they stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.
9.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people,
that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness
into his marvelous light.
10.
Once you were no people but now you are God’s people; once you had not received
mercy but now you have received mercy.

TOPIC:
THE CORNERSTONE
The
foundation is very vital for a house to stand the rigours of time. If the
foundation, called the cornerstone, is not well fortified, the building will
collapse at the slightest vibration or pressure.
Ephesians
4:15-16 portrays the Church as the body of Christ and Christ as the head of the
Church and Christians as the members.
Just
as individual members ('block' or 'stone') cannot make a wall, so also is one's
life is useless without Christ, the cornerstone. And when you put your trust in
Him, you will not be put to shame (vs. 4-6).
But
anyone who fails to trust in this cornerstone will stumble because of their
failure to believe and disobedience to the message (vs. 7-8).
Christ
has declared those Christians who have put their trust in Him as the chosen
people, the royal priesthood, etc.
Note
that as a chosen people and royal priesthood, it is our responsibility to
mediate between God and sinful humanity.
QUESTION:
Have you made Christ the cornerstone of your life and do you think that without
Him you can achieve any meaningful thing?
PRAYER:
Father, thank You for being the cornerstone of my life. Help me to trust You
all the way, no matter the obstacles I encounter, in Jesus name. Amen.
Remain
Blessed
