What Is Daily Devotion mean?

What is Daily Devotion?

Daily Devotion is another name for daily encounter with God early in the morning before any daily routine that man will engage in. Most importantly, is to thank God for bringing us yet to another day by His grace and not by our power or labour but His will.

We are also inviting the Holy Spirit to guide our steps and direct our path as we go out or stay indoor. Daily Devotion is the combination of prayer and Scriptural reading in the morning. We don't have power of  our own. But of God's will and mercy. He is our hope and confidence.

TEXT: Jeremiah 20:1-6

1: When the priest Pashhur son of Immer, the official in charge of the temple of the Lord, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things,

2: he had Jeremiah the prophet beaten and put in the stocks at the Upper Gate of Benjamin at the Lord’s temple.

3: The next day, when Pashhur released him from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “The Lord’s name for you is not Pashhur, but Terror on Every Side.

4: For this is what the Lord says: ‘I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends; with your own eyes you will see them fall by the sword of their enemies. I will give all Judah into the hands of the king of Babylon, who will carry them away to Babylon or put them to the sword.

5: I will deliver all the wealth of this city into the hands of their enemies—all its products, all its valuables and all the treasures of the kings of Judah. They will take it away as plunder and carry it off to Babylon.

6: And you, Pashhur, and all who live in your house will go into exile to Babylon. There you will die and be buried, you and all your friends to whom you have prophesied lies.’”

(New International Version Holy Bible)

TOPIC: MISUSE OF POWER

Pashur was the chief priest in charge of the Temple of the Lord. On hearing about Jeremiah’s prophecy, he had him beaten, arrested and chained. When he was released, Jeremiah told him that God will send terror upon him and his friends and they would suffer defeat and lose their lives.

Just imagine what a so-called priest has done to a fellow man of God!

Today, some Church leaders are misusing the opportunity God has given them; they see themselves as lords to whom everyone must bow. They have forgotten that power is finite.

We have an opportunity today to use our positions to draw others to Christ rather than making them run away from Him.

QUESTION: How do you use the position God has given you?

PRAYER: Precious Father, please help me to use the position You have given me for the glory of Your name. Amen.
