ECWA Devotion for Sunday 18 January 2026

SUNDAY, 18 JANUARY

TEXT: RUTH 1:15-18

TOPIC: NAOMI'S APPEAL AND RUTH'S RESPONSE

RUTH 1:15-18 NIV

15: “Look,” said Naomi, “your sister-in-law is going back to her people and her gods. Go back with her.”

16: But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.

17: Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.”

18: When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her.

NAOMI'S APPEAL AND RUTH'S RESPONSE

Naomi decided to return to Bethlehem after losing everything, including her husband and sons.

She addressed Ruth and Orpha as her daughters and urged them to return home.

Orpha left, but Ruth clung to Naomi, declaring her loyalty: "Where you go, I will go; your people will be my people, and your God my God."

Ruth's commitment is a powerful testament to loyalty and faith.

When you vow to the Lord, be sure to keep it.

QUESTION: How can we show faith and loyalty in our relationships?

PRAYER: Forgive me, Lord, for being unfaithful to my commitments. Amen.
