TEXT: JAMES 4:13-17.
TOPIC: ALL PLANS ARE WRONG WITHOUT GOD.
TEXT: JAMES 4:13-17 NIV.
13: Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we
will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make
money.”
14: Why, you do not even know what will happen
tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and
then vanishes.
15: Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s
will, we will live and do this or that.”
16: As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes.
All such boasting is evil.
17: If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do
and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.
JAMES 4:13-17 NIV.
TOPIC: ALL PLANS ARE WRONG WITHOUT GOD.
Planning is encouraged in the Bible, as seen in
Proverbs 21:5, where it states that “the plans of the diligent lead surely to
abundance.”
Jesus also highlights planning in Luke 14:28-30 and
the parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30).
However, James 4:13-18 warns against making plans
without considering God’s sovereignty.
Life is unpredictable and fleeting, and we should
acknowledge, “If the Lord wills, we will do this or that.”
Boasting about plans without acknowledging God
reflects pride.
QUESTION: Lord, help me not to let my plans be out
of Your hands.
PRAYER: Father, help me to trust in You and lean not
on my understanding. Amen.
