TEXT:
1 Samuel 8:1-5
1.
And it came when Samuel was old that he appointed his sons as judges over
Israel.
2.
Now the name of his firstborn was Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah;
they were judging in Beersheba.
3.
His sons, however, did not walk in his ways, but turned aside after dishonest
gain, took bribes, and perverted justice.
4.
Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah
5.
and said to him, “Look, you have grown old, and your sons do not walk in your
ways. Now appoint us a king to judge us [and rule over us] like all the other
nations.”
(Amplified Version Holy Bible)
TOPIC:
WATCH YOUR LIFE
The
things we do are clear reflections of our interests in life, whether good or
bad.
Samuel,
who ministered faithfully before the Lord, raised sons who chose to do things
that dishonoured God and displeased the people they were assigned to assist.
The
testimony of their lives in verse 3 was a bad one. That made the elders of
Israel ask Samuel for a king like other nations.
The
Lord gave us a great pattern for godly living through His words and through our
parents but some of us have chosen to live differently.
We
hear negative testimonies about some Christians in their schools, places of
work and businesses.
As
children of God, we are expected to shun every form of evil and live as people
of the light so that others can see our good works and glorify our Father in
heaven.
QUESTION: What
do people see from your life as you mingle with them daily?
PRAYER: Grant
me the grace to live a life that will draw people to You and not that which
will drive them away from You, in Jesus name. Amen.
Remain
Blessed
