TEXT:
Luke 9:1-9
1:
When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to
drive out all demons and to cure diseases,
2:
and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
3:
He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no
money, no extra shirt.
4:
Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town.
5:
If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet
as a testimony against them.”
6:
So they set out and went from village to village, proclaiming the good news and
healing people everywhere.
7:
Now Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was going on. And he was perplexed
because some were saying that John had been raised from the dead,
8:
others that Elijah had appeared, and still others that one of the prophets of
long ago had come back to life.
9:
But Herod said, “I beheaded John. Who, then, is this I hear such things about?”
And he tried to see him.

TOPIC:
THANK GOD FOR AUTHORITY AND POWER OF HEALING AND MIRACLES BUT TRUE REPENTANCE
FROM SINS IS WHAT WE NEED!
Authority refers to the
right to do something while power is the ability to do that thing.
The Lord Jesus'
authority is still valid and His power is still available to us today to preach
the gospel and heal the sick in His mighty name (Mathew 28:18-20, Mark
16:15fwd).
Let us learn to sustain
ourselves by faith through preaching the gospel in faith and not by begging.
Not all will receive
the gospel. Encourage those who do and are led by the Holy Spirit and leave
those who oppose it.
What Herod needed most
is repentance and forgiveness from sins and not mere curiosity about the
miracles he heard were taking place.
Like Herod, the
greatest need of the Church today is true repentance from sins and not the
present obsession with miracles, signs and wonders.
QUESTION:
Have you been convicted of your need for repentance from sins?
PRAYER:
Merciful God, forgive me my many sins and sanctify me to live a holy life, in
Jesus name. Amen.
Remain
Blessed
