TEXT: Acts
17:16-21
16. Now
while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was greatly angered when
he saw that the city was full of idols.
17. So
he had discussions in the synagogue with the Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles,
and in the market place day after day with any who happened to be there.
18. And
some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began to engage in conversation
with him. And some said, “What could this idle babbler [with his eclectic, scrap-heap
learning] have in mind to say?” Others said, “He seems to be a proclaimer of
strange deities”-because he was preaching the good news about Jesus and the
resurrection.
19.
They took him and brought him to the Areopagus (Hill of Ares, the Greek god of
war), saying, “May we know what this [strange] new teaching is which you are proclaiming?
20. For
you are bring some startling and strange thing to our ears; so we want to know
what they mean.”
21. (Now
all the Athenians and the foreigners visiting there used to spend their [leisure]
time in nothing other than telling or hearing something new.)

TOPIC: GROWING
IDOLATRY IN OUR COMMUNITIES
We are in an age where
churches are multiplying by the day yet the rate of idolatry and all manner of
ungodliness seem to be on the speed lane, in spite of the many believers
around.
Paul was deeply troubled
when he saw that idolatry was everywhere in Athens. His teachings to encourage
people to move close to God were rejected by those who claimed to know.
We have many men and women
of God and churches around but it appears that the more of such people and
churches we have, the more ungodliness prevails.
If Christ should come today,
what will you say you done to bring others to Him?
QUESTION:
What will you do to combat the rate of idolatry in your community?
PRAYER:
Lord, may my lifestyle be so transparent and godly that others will see it and
be won over to You, in Jesus name, Amen.
Remain
Blessed
