1 Timothy 5:1-16
TOPIC:
ADVICE TO PASTORS AND WIDOWS
Paul
advised the younger Pastor Timothy about how to relate with the people he was
ministering to. As a young person, he should relate with all age groups
appropriately. If and when necessary, he should not rebuke the elderly harshly,
but in love and with great respect.
Paul
also advised him that widows should be taken care of by their children and
grandchildren who have the means. He added that anyone who does not take care
of his relatives, especially his immediate family, has denied the faith and is
worse than an unbeliever!
Widows
who should be the full responsibility of the church must have had no one to
take care of them, are very old and over 60 years and must have been faithful
to their husbands and have a good, clear, testimony. Widows themselves,
especially the younger ones, were to be very prayerful and dependent on God and
not live in sin.
These
are still very relevant guidelines for pastors and churches to follow even
today in ministry and handling widows.
QUESTION: How
can you use this advice in your church?
PRAYER: Oh
God, help me to be appropriately guided in my relationship with my church
members of all age groups and with widows, in Jesus name. Amen.
Remain
Blessed
